Demeter and Persephone

Demeter (Ceres) was Zeus’s sister as well as one of his numerous consorts. She was the goddess of agriculture and civilization. Her daughter, Persephone (Kore), shared her duties. One day, Persephone was relaxing on the island of Sicily when she attracted the attention of Pluto. Entranced by her beauty, he stole her away to be his queen.
